A horse is most resistant to infection and disease when:
- Immunised.
- Good nutrition.
- Minimal stress.
Managing an outbreak:
- Make a diagnosis and verify it medically (find the cause).
- Define a 'case,' do all sick horses have the same clinical sign and is the same diagnosis verified.
- How big is the problem- attack rate.
- Describe the outbreak- temporally, spatially and animal characteristics.
- Implement disease controls.
Mass treat, quarantine, environmental hygiene and vaccination is possible.
